Senior Credit Analyst
About Plus1
Plus1 is a fast-growing fintech company with a clear mission: helping people gain better control over their personal finances. Through digital solutions, personal advice and a strong customer focus, we provide safe and value-creating support to consumers. Our core offering is debt consolidation loans, where we help customers lower their cost of debt and simplify their finances. We are now expanding in Germany and are looking for the person who will build and take lead in our credit function in Berlin.
About the role
You will be our first credit hire in Germany. This is a rare opportunity to design, build and own the credit function in a new market, from the first credit policy to a mature, well-governed lending operation that scales over time. You will work close to our Chief Credit Officer (CCRO) who is based in Stockholm, while carrying real accountability for credit quality, portfolio performance and regulatory compliance in the German market. You will be a sparring partner to the business and leadership, and your analysis will directly shape growth, pricing and risk appetite. The role has a clear path to leading a team as the German operation scales.
What you will do
Build the credit function
Design and implement the credit framework for Germany: credit policy, risk appetite, underwriting criteria, decision rules and cut-offs for B2C debt consolidation lending.
Define the target operating model for credit, including processes, roles, tooling, documentation and governance.
Establish the foundation for ongoing monitoring, reporting and control, and later recruit and lead a team as we grow.
Credit strategy and underwriting
Develop and continuously optimise acquisition and underwriting strategy, balancing growth, risk and profitability.
Work with the credit modelling team on scorecards and decisioning, including the use of German credit bureau data (e.g. SCHUFA and other bureaus) and income and affordability assessment.
Own the end-to-end flow from application and decision to servicing, arrears and collections, and drive process improvements and automation along the way.
Portfolio management and performance
Monitor portfolio performance, vintages, delinquency, roll rates and credit losses, and translate insights into concrete actions and recommendations.
Own the analysis of unit economics, pricing and profitability for our credit products.
Take responsibility for provisioning and expected credit loss (ECL) in accordance with IFRS 9, including methodology, staging and reporting, together with Finance.
Governance, risk and compliance
Ensure that credit processes comply with German and EU regulation, including consumer credit rules, responsible lending and creditworthiness assessment, GDPR and relevant data protection requirements, and requirements related to debt collection.
Maintain robust governance, documentation and audit trails, and be the credit contact for auditors, partners, funding providers and, where relevant, regulators.
Contribute to risk reporting and the internal control framework together with the CCRO.
Market and business analysis
Analyse the German consumer lending market, competitors and customer segments, and provide decision material for the CCRO and leadership.
Prepare regular credit and portfolio reporting, including for the board and funding partners.
Contribute to our European expansion by sharing learnings and frameworks across markets.
Who you are
You are an analytically strong, business-minded credit professional who is comfortable both building and running things. You can set the strategic direction and then dig into the data yourself. You thrive when there is no template to follow, and you take personal ownership of outcomes.
We believe you have:
A university degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Industrial Engineering and Management or a similar quantitative field.
Around 4-8 years of experience in credit risk, preferably in consumer lending, from a bank, consumer finance company, fintech or consulting. Experience from unsecured lending, debt consolidation or similar products is a clear advantage.
Solid understanding of the full credit lifecycle: underwriting, portfolio management, arrears and collections, and loss forecasting.
Hands-on experience with data analysis (SQL, Python/R or similar) and the ability to turn analysis into decisions.
Knowledge of IFRS 9, ECL and provisioning, as well as unit economics and pricing in credit products.
Good understanding of the German market and its regulatory landscape, or the ability to quickly build it. Experience of working with German credit bureaus is a strong plus.
Full professional proficiency in English and German. Swedish is a plus, but not a requirement.
Personal qualities:
You take accountability and are comfortable making decisions with incomplete information.
You are pragmatic, structured and driven to build, but also care about long-term quality, governance and sustainability.
You communicate clearly with both technical teams and senior leadership, and challenge constructively when needed.
You want to grow into broader responsibility, including leading a team.
Why Plus1?
You are the first credit hire in Germany and will shape how credit is done in a key market from day one.
Short paths from analysis to action, and a direct line to the CCRO and leadership.
We are scaling fast across Europe, and there is no ceiling for someone who delivers, including the chance to build and lead the German credit team.
We help customers lower their costs and gain control over their finances, and we have already helped many save significant amounts.
Interested? We hire continuously, so don’t wait. Send in your application and tell us why you are the right person to build Plus1’s credit function in Germany.
